The Week in Crime: Shootings, Stabbings and Undercover Injuries

The 88th Precinct felony reports from May 30 to June 5 included a gunshot wound to the butt, two stabbings and two armed robberies.

On Monday we linked to an article reporting that an officer from the 88th had a seizure while on duty. A spokeswoman for the police department told The Local that the officer is now feeling better.

The 88th Precinct reported 22 felonies and three arrests last week.

Man Shot

-A 32-year-old man was sitting on a Monument Walk bench in the Ingersoll Houses at 10:30 p.m. on May 30, police said. The man heard gun shots and then felt pain in his left buttock, he told police. He was taken to Kings County Hospital and treated for a gunshot wound in his buttock, police said. The man does not know who shot him of where the shots came from, police said.

One Day, Two Armed Robberies

-Two men took a 28-year-old man’s cell phone on June 2 around 10:20 p.m., police said. One man approached the victim, displayed a gun and said, “Give me what you got,” several times, referencing to the man’s cell phone, police said. The victim handed over his iPhone and the men ran away, police said.

-Three men used a gun to steal $6 from a 15-year-old boy on DeKalb Avenue near Saint Felix Street, at 10:20 p.m. on June 2, police said.

Stabbed in the Back

-An 18-year-old man was stabbed in the back during a 5 a.m. fight at Club Rain on May 30, police said. He was taken to Brooklyn Hospital Center and treated for the stab wound, as well as cuts on his face and a bump on the head he received during the fight, police said. The victim refused to provide any information on his attacker, police said.

-Just after midnight on May 31, a 38-year-old man was walking on DeKalb Avenue when a group of men tried to mug him, police said. The strangers crossed the street, approached the man and one of them said, “Run your pockets,” the man told police. He pretended to reach for his wallet, but ran away and escaped the robbers instead, the man told police. When he stopped running he realized he was bleeding and walked to the Brooklyn Hospital Center, where he was treated for a small puncture wound in his back, police said.

Undercover Officers Injured

-On June 4 at 1 p.m., two undercover officers were injured when a man took $20 from one of them, police said. The first officer suffered cuts and bruises on the right hand, and the second suffered bruises to his right hand after protecting his partner from the thief, police said.

Robert Enelus, 36, has been charged with robbery in the third degree and criminal possession of stolen property, according to the Kings County District Attorney’s office. He is currently being held at the Manhattan Detention Complex on $1,250 bail, according to the Department of Corrections.

Atlantic Terminal Mall Theft

-A 26-year-old woman’s wallet was stolen while she was shopping in the Atlantic Terminal Mall on May 29 at 4:30 p.m., police said. $110 in cash, her New York State learner’s permit and her credit card were also taken, the woman told police. When she called to cancel her card, the thief had already used it, police said.

-A 29-year-old woman’s wallet was stolen from her purse while she shopped at Daffy’s in the Atlantic Terminal Mall on May 30 at 5 p.m., police said. Her purse was over her shoulder and behind her back the entire time she shopped, she told police. Several credit cards were taken and someone made a $224 purchase at Target with her Chase debit card. Purchases were also made on the woman’s Discover card at Target and at Scotto’s Wine Cellar, police said.

-A man was arrested for shoplifting $1,050 in merchandise from Old Navy in the Atlantic Terminal Mall on May 16, police said. Heeribert Morales, 39, was arrested on May 31 and has been charged with two counts of petit larceny, according to the Kings County District Attorney’s office. Mr. Morales is currently being held at the Eric M. Taylor Center, according to the Department of Corrections.

-Police arrested a man for trying to buy Apple iPads with a stolen American Express card from the Best Buy in the Atlantic Terminal Mall on June 3, police said. American Express notified Best Buy that the credit card had been reported lost or stolen, police said, and then an employee notified the 88th Precinct.

Stephen Greene, 26, was arrested on June 3 at 9:42 p.m. in the store and has been charged with grand larceny, criminal possession of stolen property and criminal impersonation, according to the Kings County District Attorney’s office.

Cash and Cell Phones Snatched

-At 9 p.m. on June 3, on the corner of DeKalb Avenue and South Portland Avenue, a man stole a 30-year-old man’s cell phone, police said. The mugger, who pretended to have a weapon, referred to the man’s cell phone and said, “Give it up,” the man told police. The mugger took the man’s Verizon HTC ThunderBolt and then told him to run, police said.

-A man snatched an 18-year-old man’s iPhone 4 while he walked down DeKalb Avenue at 4 p.m. on June 3, police said. He was texting on the device while walking when a man ran up behind him and grabbed the phone from his hand, the man told police.

Friend-on-Friend Theft

-A 28-year-old woman was robbed after inviting a friend and an acquaintance back to her Pratt Institute apartment at 5 p.m. on June 5, police said. The woman went into her bathroom for two minutes, police said. When she came out she saw her friend stealing jewelry from her drawers, the woman told the police. Her friend took $2,800 in jewelry, including a pair of gold earrings, a diamond heart chain, a gold ring and a gold chain, police said.

Local Burglaries

-A 19-year-old man left the front door to his Downing Street apartment unlocked on June 2, police said. When he returned at around 3 p.m. he noticed that the door was open and his Samsung laptop was missing from his bedroom, the man told police.

-On June 4 someone tried to break into a 52-year-old man’s apartment on Adelphi Street, police said. The burglar first broke through a locked side gate and then set off a security alarm at 3:35 a.m., when the burglar tried to pry an air-conditioner from a third-floor window, police said.

Purse and Wallet Theft

-During a birthday party at Hot Bird bar on May 27, a 31-year-old woman left her purse unattended to go to the restroom at 10 p.m., police said. When she returned she noticed her Nine West bag, containing her wallet, gift cards, credit and debit cards, was gone, police said.

-A 27-year-old woman forgot her Prada purse in a cab at 3 a.m. on May 29, police said. She also lost her City University of New York student ID card, iPhone, Virginia driver’s license and credit cards, worth a total of $2,400, police said. She canceled her credit cards before any fraudulent charges were made, but someone used her iPhone to go online before she could put her cell phone number on hold, the woman told police.

-Someone took a 57-year-old man’s wallet on May 30 between 4:30 p.m. and 8 a.m. the next morning, police said. The man, who reported the theft at 9:45 a.m. on June 1, said he also lost two credit cards, noting that when he called to cancel the cards he learned that someone had made unauthorized charges, police said.

Auto-related Theft

-A 69-year-old man’s 1999 Plymouth Voyager was taken during the night on June 2, police said. He parked the van on Adelphi Street near Myrtle Avenue at 11 p.m., the man told police. When he returned at 5 a.m. on June 3 he realized it was missing, police said.

-On June 3 at 1 p.m., a thief smashed the rear driver’s side window of a Nissan Murano to steal $10,000 that was in the back of the car, police said. The driver, a 29-year-old man, was in the middle of restocking a Layfayette Avenue ATM with money, police said.

-Someone smashed a car window to take a portable Garmin GPS and a manufacturer-installed radio, worth a total of $1,700, from a 30-year-old’s car between 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. on June 3, police said. The thief smashed the rear passenger-side window of the car, which was parked near the corner of Prince Street and Myrtle Avenue, to take the items, police said.

-Someone stole $1,870 in musical equipment, including two microphones and three guitar pedals, out of a car parked on Downing Street near Putnam Avenue on June 5, police said. A 27-year-old man parked the car at midnight and returned at 11 a.m. to find the rear driver’s side window broken and the equipment missing, police said.
