The 88th Precinct felony reports from June 6 to June 12 included a man who threw his shoes at a cop and an attempted robbery with a toy gun.
We reported earlier this week that police have linked two robberies near Cuyler Gore Park. In both crimes, two men beat and mugged teenage boys, police said. The robberies, which occurred in May, are the second string of muggings around the park, following similar crimes by five men in April.
The 88th Precinct reported 12 felonies and four arrests last week.
Officer Assaulted
-A man attacked a police officer with his shoes and fists in the 88th Precinct house on June 8 at 10:15 p.m., police said. The man was arrested after a security guard told officers that he tried to steal from a store in the Atlantic Terminal Mall. The name of the store was not listed in the felony report.
When an officer tried to put the man in a cell at the 88th Precint, the thief threw his shoes and several punches, injuring the officer’s right hand, police said. The officer was taken by ambulance to New York Methodist Hospital, where he was treated for the injury, police said. The thief, who police described as an, “emotionally disturbed person,” was taken to Woodhull Medical Center for treatment, police said.
David Barnes, 57, was arrested at 9:56 p.m. on June 8 in the mall, police said. He has been charged with assault in the second and third degrees, petit larceny, criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree, obstruction of government administration in the second degree and harassment in the second degree, according to the Kings County District Attorney’s office.
Attempted Toy Gun Robbery
-Four men tried to rob a 35-year-old woman with a toy gun near the corner of Greene Avenue and Classon Avenue on June 11 at 7:10 a.m., police said. One of the men approached her and demanded her iPod, police said. When she refused, the mugger showed her a black toy gun, the woman told police.
The men punched her in the arm and threatened her with more violence, but she kept her iPod, police said. She refused medical attention for a cut on her arm that she received during the attack, police said.
Attacked and Robbed
-On June 10 at 10:30 p.m. three muggers attacked and robbed a 45-year-old woman outside her Adelphi Street home, police said. She bought cigarettes at a deli on Myrtle Avenue, between Carlton Avenue and Adelphi, and walked around the corner to her home, the woman told police. When she got there, one of the muggers pushed her against a gate, called her an obscenity, and stole her black purse before the three ran away, the woman told police. The woman lost an unknown amount of cash and a Chase debit card, police said.
-Two men punched a 23-year-old man in the face and stole his iPhone 4 at the corner of DeKalb Avenue and Ryerson Street on June 12 at 1:30 a.m., police said. The man, who was unable to describe his attackers, was taken to Brooklyn Hospital Center and treated for a cut lip, police said.
Teen on Teen Crime
-Police arrested two 14-year-old boys after they threatened a 17-year-old boy and stole his bicycle on June 9 at 1 p.m. near the corner of Park Avenue and Carlton Avenue, police said. Police said the boy recovered his $200 bicycle, but had no further information on how he got it back.
One teen was arrested an hour after the theft near the corner of Carlton Avenue and Myrtle Avenue, police said. Another boy was arrested on June 10 at 7:05 a.m. near the corner of Park Avenue and Carlton Avenue, police said. There are no charges on file for either of the minors, according to the Kings County District Attorney’s office.
Pickpocket Arrested
-A man picked $30 from a 22-year-old woman’s back pocket on June 7 at 5:20 p.m. at the corner of Myrtle Avenue and Adelphi Street, police said.
Derrick Lockett, 43, was arrested less than thirty minutes after the theft, police said. He has been charged with grand larceny in the fourth degree, petit larceny, jostling and criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree, according to the Kings County District Attorney’s office.
Purse and Laptop Theft
-Someone stole a woman’s purse while she was having dinner at Chez Oscar on June 7, between 10:15 p.m. and 10:40 p.m., police said. The woman, whose age was not released by the police, left her purse on the side of her chair, police said.
Two witnesses saw two people who had been sitting behind the victim’s chair leave around 10:40 p.m., police said. When the people left, the woman noticed that her purse was missing, police said. The woman’s wallet, Chase credit card, American Express card, debit card and cosmetics bag were stolen along with the purse, police said.
-A thief took a 21-year-old woman’s Apple laptop on June 8, between 2:45 p.m. and 3:15 p.m., police said. The woman put her laptop down at the Flatbush Avenue Extension Applebee’s restaurant, left for half an hour, and returned to find that it was gone, she told police.
Domestic Violence
-A woman attacked her nephew with a baseball bat in a Clifton Avenue apartment on June 8 at 9:30 p.m., police said. The woman grabbed her nephew, pushed him down on a banister, and punched him with a closed fist several times, causing a cut to his left ear, he told police. After he escaped from the banister, the woman chased her nephew and hit him in the left arm with a baseball bat, police said. Police did not release the age of the victim or the attacker. No arrest has been made at this time, police said.
-A 23-year-old woman was pushed to the ground by her daughter’s father in her Ingersoll Houses apartment on June 11 at 4:50 p.m., police said. She fell on her daughter’s stroller, the woman told police. The child, who was in the stroller when she fell, was cut on the ear during the altercation, police said. Police did not release the child’s age. The man also stole the woman’s cell phone, police said.
Local Fraud
-A man charged $3,000 on his 39-year-old boss’s American Express credit card, police said. The thief worked for the victim from Jan. 10, 2011 to April 27, the man told police on June 7. The charges were made during that time-span, police said. The police did not report any charges or arrests.
-Someone stole a 39-year-old woman’s Social Security number and used it to open a T-Mobile cell phone account in 2007, police said. The woman received a letter from NCO Financial Systems, a debt collection agency, on June 1, saying she owed a balance of $250. When she called T-Mobile, she learned that her Social Security number was used to open the account, she told police on June 6.
