A 28-year-old publishing company marketing manager from Fort Greene died after a driver that police say was drunk hit her with a car early Sunday, the New York Observer reported. She died of her injuries on Monday morning, without ever regaining consciousness, an announcement on her company’s Web site said.

The 88th Precinct confirmed that Clara Heyworth was struck by a Honda at 1:50 a.m. on Sunday on Vanderbilt Avenue near DeKalb, only blocks away from her home. She was crossing the street when a 43-year-old man, whose name was not released, was unable to stop in time and hit her, police said.

The man was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, police said. The Kings County District Attorney’s office would not confirm the charges without the man’s name.

Ms. Heyworth passed away at the hospital of her injuries, police said, but would not say which hospital. A vigil has been created at the site of the accident, honoring Ms. Heyworth with flowers, candles and a card, a reader told The Local.

The collision occurred only a block away from where Aileen McKay-Dalton died in a car accident last year on July 9.

Ms. Heyworth was a marketing manager at Verso Books, an independent, radical publishing house based in Brooklyn and London. She wrote often on the company’s site, posting excerpts and videos. In a post on the company’s Web site, filmmaker and author Tariq Ali described her as enthusiastic and intelligent, with a “bright-eyed smile.”

She is survived by her mother and husband, Jacob Stevens, the post said. We are reaching out to her family for more information.
